Test CELLULAR PERFORMANCE and WI-FI, too.
When you pay what we consumers pay, we should get what we are paying for. Many folks don't know that -- via your regular web browser -- you can go to **speedtest**.net to keep your provider honest and compare notes with others in your area. No special software necessary to run this on your computer.
For extra geekery points, if you have more than one installed browser, you may want to test one browser against the other. Run just one test at a time (sequential), and hold all other variables the same to get a fair comparison.
For my money, Safari runs the fastest with content presentation. Chrome is a solid second. That's on my couple of year old MacBook Air. *Your mileage may vary.*

If you can tolerate Hot Tub Time Machine, you can enjoy The 40 Year Old Virgin.
Amazon Prime: free 30 day trial. As with all trials, I recommend setting a cancellation reminder on whatever calendar solution you use, about 3 days in advance of the trial's expiration. (You are using a calendar, aren't you?) But here's the truth: if you value the convenience of guilt-free ordering from Amazon that includes free 2-day shipping (on darn near everything), you're likely to get the annual fee's worth out of this.
Note to self: publish my calculations on how much I saved last year in shipping after the annual membership fee. (And that doesn't even begin to speak to how much gas I didn't guzzle running around town.)
Bonus material's you'll enjoy: Amazon will comp book rentals (think your local library gone digital -- except better selection and quality) and provide you with unlimited streaming of their Instant Video library. (I'm a little underwhelmed by this, but the selection is getting better every year and frankly if you have a device that plays nicely with this feature, it can quickly and easily expand your access to feature films over and above what comes with your Netflix subscription.
So sign up and in a few weeks come back and comment on your take.
No, not the preegnancy type of contraction.
Blog.
As in, web + log = blog.
Ugh.
Maybe the problem is it sounds too much like a noise I make while hovering over the porcelain bowl.
Yak. Not the biggy furry kind.
Or maybe it's the connotation that I simply don't care for.
Whatever my subconscious's objection, I have never cared for the term. So this is definitely not another blog. When I figure out what it is, I will let someone know.
